SHAPE Alaska Teacher of the Year honors
Nominations are now closed for the 2017 SHAPE Teacher of the Year. The Teachers of the Year for elementary, middle & high school physical and health educators, and adapted physical educators will be announced on October 27th, at the SHAPE Alaska Awards Banquet at 49th State Brewery, as part of this year's SHAPE Alaska statewide professional conference. WE CONGRATULATE SHAPE ALASKA'S TEACHERS OF THE YEAR FOR 2016-2017
Superintendents, principals, parents, and colleagues from all around Alaska rushed forth to nominate the outstanding health and physical educators teaching in the gymnasiums, classrooms and playing fields around our state! Thirty-four outstanding educators were recognized for their commitment to excellence, their leadership and their connections with students and families.
Our 2016-17 Teachers of the Year:

- Allegra Butler, from Colony Middle School (Mat-Su) is Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year!
- Karen Bronga, from Scenic Park and Kasuun Elementaries (Anchorage) is Elementary Health Education Teacher of the Year!
- Shasta Smith, from Sitka High School is High School Health Education Teacher of the Year!
